Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 01: Blending science and spirituality harmoniously will help human beings lead a meaningful life as both are important for realisation of the ultimate truth, said Prof Chandrabhas Narayana, Director of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB).

Speaking after inaugurating the Centre for Scientific and Spiritual Radiance (CSSR) set up at the Sree Bala Vighneswara Maha Ganapathy Temple at Mithranagar at Vattiyoorkavu, as a meditation centre for devotees, Prof Narayana said science and spirituality are two sides of the same coin.

“In simple terms, what is measurable is science and what is not measurable is spirituality. We need to bring spirituality and science into our life as both are important. Science brings in the idea about how we can live happily by leveraging various tools and technology. But that is not sufficient in our life. Spirituality will help human beings lead meaningful lives by directing feelings such as love, emotion and compassion for the service of others, which cannot be explained through science,” he said.

Noting that both science and spirituality work towards the truth, Prof Narayana said today people should look at science and spirituality coming together to make their lives liveable with the satisfaction of seeking the truth.

Swamy Manikanda welcomed the gathering. Corporation Councillor Adv. V.G. Girikumar and playback singer KS Chithra were also present on the occasion.

Playback singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi presented a devotional musical programme in the evening. The meditation centre aims to propagate science-based spirituality among people.

A good number of devotees turned up at the temple to witness the inaugural ceremony of CSSR, which coincided with the New Year.
