Kochi / December 20, 2022

Kochi, Dec 20: Applications have been invited for the worldwide Fab Academy 2023 course being held at 70 select fablabs on behalf of the Global Fab Foundation.

Informing this, Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) said its Super Fablab off this city provides the six-month offline learning facility, which is aimed at practical implementation of theoretical knowledge.

Basic proficiency in English language and computer operations are essential for the course. The applicants can be engineers, architects and designers or those interested in fabrication and designing/prototyping. A section of the selected students will be, on the basis of interviews, eligible for scholarships covering 70 per cent of the study fees.

Applications can be made through http://fabacademy.org or by scanning the QR code given at the bottom. Those admitted need to attend the classes physically at KSUM’s Super Fablab Kerala in Kerala Technology Innovation Zone at Kalamassery, 20 km north of here.

The diploma course has been conceived as a finishing school, as it gives the students opportunities to choose projects and work on them. Each week, there will be a day’s online class by MIT’s Professor Neil Gershenfeld. Else, the students will be guided by the instructors at Super Fablab Kochi.

Last year, Super Fablab Kochi’s student Abel Tomy was selected as the best student project of Fab Academy globally and awarded the FAME award. Tomy later went on to grab the esteemed ERASMUS MUNDUS scholarship and is currently pursuing his masters in the UK. Other students of Fab Academy, too, have either gone on to pursue higher education from top universities or are working with various product development firms.
