TN Minister calls for collaboration of southern states tosupport youth innovation

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 16:The two-day startup conclave Huddle Global concluded here this evening with Tamil Nadu IT Minister Shri T Mano Thangaraj calling for strong collaboration of southern states to extend support for youth innovations for reinforcing the startup ecosystem in the region.

Speaking on‘States Collaboration for Expanding Startup Support’ at the December 15-16meet organizedby Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) at Kovalam,ShriThangarajsuggested setting up a common pavilionof Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala at global startup exhibitions like GITEX.

The third edition of the conclave showcased Kerala’s vibrant startup ecosystem before a wide gathering of global stakeholders, opening up plenty of opportunities for startups in the state.

Noting the importance of digitization of various departments, Shri Thangaraj lauded the amazing technology innovations of youth he witnessed at the expo at the Huddle Global event. 

Elaborating the ways for tie-up among states, the Minister said student partnership can be formed by conducting hackathons as part of student exchange programmes. 

“We can also build meaningful partnerships with respective Startup Missions of states. A proper coordination will help solving existing problems like skill gap,” he said.  

Secretary (Electronics &IT), Government of Kerala, Dr Rathan U Kelkar, said Kerala is looking at creating entrepreneurial spirit from schools to universities. 

Dr Kelkar said we need collaboration of minds and inculcate spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship at a very early age.

“The takeaway from Kerala for any state is the spirit of entrepreneurship. As a state, we have to focus on strengths and limitations, besides prioritizing what has to be done based on our resources. We look at startup community as taking Kerala to next level of activities,” he said.

Mission Director and CEO, Tamil Nadu Startup and Innovation Mission, Shri Sivarajah Ramanathan, who was the moderator, said setting up an intellectual platform among the states for collaboration would be ideal.
