Kochi / September 26, 2026
KOCHI, Sept 26: The 13th edition of Kerala Travel Mart (KTM 2026), the country’s largest tourism trade exhibition, has recorded an all-time high participation of international buyers, with 380 representatives from 59 countries attending the event.
The United States has the highest representation, with 38 buyers, accounting for nearly 10% of the total international participation at the mart.
“The figures reflect the popularity of Kerala’s tourism offerings among international travellers and popularity of Kerala's tourism market among foreign tourists and the strength and importance this brings to the tourism sector ,” KTM Society president Jose Pradeep said. Foreign tourists, who generally have higher spending capacity and stay longer, make a significant contribution to Kerala’s foreign exchange earnings and the hospitality sector, he said.
KTM Society secretary S. Swaminathan said international visitors showed particular interest in Ayurveda, traditional wellness practices, heritage, responsible tourism, backwater experiences and eco-friendly travel. Besides destinations such as Fort Kochi, Kumarakom, Munnar and Wayanad, the growing interest in lesser-known destinations was also providing an economic boost to local tourism.
The United Kingdom followed the U.S. with 35 representatives, while Russia had 30 and the United Arab Emirates 23. Germany sent 18 representatives and France 17. Malaysia and Spain had 15 representatives each, followed by South Africa with 14 and Oman with 13.
KTM Society office-bearers said the record participation from international markets, along with retaining traditional markets, could help attract more foreign tourists to Kerala in the coming months. KTM 2026 would also provide opportunities for direct international business partnerships and showcase Kerelam's diverse travel experiences to the global tourism market, they said.
