Milma ready for Onam market; three-fold increase in dairy products expected
Kochi / August 21, 2026
Kochi, Aug 21: Anticipating a nearly three-fold increase in the normal demand for quality milk and milk products during the Onam season, the Ernakulam Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (ERCMPU) has made elaborate arrangements to meet the requirements of consumers.
Preparations have been made across Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam and Thrissur districts, which come under the Regional Union, to meet this substantial surge from Atham to Thiruvonam, the vibrant 10-day countdown to Kerala’s harvest festival.
ERCMU Chairman C.N. Valsalan Pillai said the Union has completed arrangements to ensure adequate availability of around 160 dairy products, including milk and ghee, besides sugar-free ice cream, sugar-free peda, 65 varieties of ice cream, five varieties of peda, and different types of paneer and palada.
Milk and curd from the dairies at Thrippunithura, Kottayam, Kattappana and Thrissur, and milk products from the Products Dairy at Edappally will be supplied to consumers without disruption.
The Union has also put in place the necessary arrangements to handle sales exceeding the anticipated demand during the festive season.
The Ernakulam Regional Union is also taking steps to prevent the entry of adulterated products into the market during Onam.
“The Union aims to maximise turnover and profits, thereby supporting dairy farmers,” Mr Pillai said.
He also sought the support of dairy farmers and the public for Milma's efforts in this regard.
