Children, veterans among cyclists in the rally heralding Onam Week fete

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 16: Around hundred cyclists, including children and veterans, participated in the cycle rally held in the city today as a prelude to the August 24-30 Onam Tourism Week Celebrations, organised by the Tourism Department.

Shri M R Baiju MLA, Chairman, Publicity Committee Onam Week celebrations, flagged off the rally at the Manaveeyam Veedhi at 7 am. The rally concluded at Gandhi Park (East Fort) after wending its way through Museum, Palayam and Statue Junction, cheered by onlookers.

Palayam Councillor Smt Sherly S and Deputy Director Shri Sreekumar G also spoke at the flag-off ceremony.

Shri Baiju said this year’s Onam celebrations have been planned on a grander scale. Heralding the event, flag marches will reach all the assembly constituencies in the district on August 21, 22 and 23. 

The cyclists who joined the rally were registered through organizations like Kerala State Sports Council, SAI (Sports Authority of India), Trivandrum Bikers Club and Indus Cycling Embassy. 

The rally was supported by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan and FIT India. 

The Tourism Department’s Onam Tourism Week Celebrations will be held from August 24 -30.
