Kerala needs larger collaborative models for next phase of development: Muthoot Group Deputy MD

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 18: Kerala needs larger collaborative models to become a destination where people want to live, work, and potentially raise future generations, according to Mr George M George, Deputy Managing Director of the Muthoot Group.

Participating in the Technopark vodcast series ‘Aspire: Stories of Innovation’, Mr George mentioned that Kerala should establish think tanks where all stakeholders can collaborate and share ideas for an integrated development model.

“Kerala tops most social and development indicators compared to other states in the country and is at par with European nations in that regard,” Mr George said.

“However, as a next step, we need a larger collaborative model of development where various ecosystems and stakeholders come together and design a more elaborate strategy for an integrated development model, and I can see it has already started.”

On Technopark being a pioneering ecosystem enabler, Mr George said Technopark should have more facilities to encourage the startup ecosystem.

“Though we have made giant strides in developing a robust startup ecosystem with initiatives like Startup Village in Kochi, we need to focus more on such facilities to attract young talent who can come here and develop ground-breaking technologies,” said Mr George.

On changing concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities, Mr George said, corporate houses should integrate CSR into their core business model.

“Corporates should plan their CSR activities as a long-term project” he noted.

Constant monitoring of the impact of CSR activities is also important, said Mr George. “We need to ensure our activity is reaching and having an impact on the lives of the beneficiaries and society in a larger context,” he said. “Our ‘Cup for Life’ CSR activity, where we distributed menstrual cups to women, is an example. It's not just about menstrual hygiene; the attendance of a girl child in school increased. She will be able to influence and encourage others to use the cups as well, and that changes the entire perspective of society on menstruation.”

The project encourages eco-friendly hygiene practices and also helps in education and a shift in societal perspectives, so the impact is multi-faceted, said Mr George.
