Techies’ football tourney kicks off at Technopark

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug.07: Showcasing the on-ground skill and talent of techies, the ‘Raviz Priviliz Prathidhwani Sevens – Season 9,’ the largest football tournament in the IT sector, and the sixth season of the 5s (five-a-side) women's football tournament commenced at Technopark here.

The tourney is organised by Prathidhwani, the welfare organization of IT employees of Kerala, in collaboration with Yoode Promotions and Leela Raviz Hotels Group.

Former Indian football goalkeeper Shri K. T. Chacko, popularly known as "Parakkum Chacko," inaugurated the two-month-long football tournament at Technopark Ground (Phase-1). Prior to the inauguration, the defending champions H&R Block men's and women's teams ceremonially returned the Ever Rolling Trophies.

Marking the grand start, a bike rally was conducted between Technopark Phase-3 and the Technopark Ground, traversing major IT office buildings in the state capital’s tech-landscape.

Ms. Anchana K. Das, Convener of the Women's Tournament, presided over the function while Shri Sareesh M, Men's Tournament Convener, welcomed the gathering. 

Smt Smitha Rathod, General Manager, The Leela Ashtamudi; Shri Prem Kamal, Cluster Director, The Leela Kovalam; Shri Kiran R. K., Manager, Yoode; Shri Rajeev Krishnan, State Convener, Prathidhwani; Shri Rajith V. P, Sports Convener, Prathidhwani; and Shri Advaith Viswambaran, Joint Convener of the Tournament, were also present.

On the occasion, Assistant Commissioner of Police Shri S. Y. Suresh administered the Toofan Warrior Pledge, an anti-drug oath under Operation Toofan – The Narco Hunt, Kerala's public safety and anti-narcotics campaign, reaffirming the IT community's commitment to building a drug-free society.

The inaugural ceremony was followed by two exhibition matches featuring the defending champions H&R Block women's team, who lost to the Prathidhwani women's team, and the H&R Block men's team, who defeated the Prathidhwani men's team.

The matches will be played in the evenings under floodlights at the Technopark Ground. The tourney will bring together more than 2,500 IT professionals representing 106 teams from over 100 IT companies. 

The team lifting the title will get cash prize, ever-rolling trophy and one-day accommodation at Raviz Ashtamudi Resort, Kollam. Also, Raviz Hotels and Yoode Promotions will sponsor additional prizes for the winners. There will be special prizes for the best Player, best goalkeeper and the highest goal scorer.  In every match, Yoode will give away the ‘Player of the Match’ trophy.

The organisers have also created an opportunity for spectators to win prizes. The league-based first round matches will be followed by knock-out round. All the matches will be held on working days.

The sixth season of the 5s (five-a-side) women's football tournament will also be held on the sidelines of the 7s tourney. The men’s and women’s team of H&R Block emerged winners in both sevens and five-a-side tournaments last season.
