Kerala’s first quantum tech community launched

Thiruvananthapuram, July 20: Aiming at building a future-ready quantum workforce, Kerala has launched its first quantum technologies community, an exclusive cohort focused on quantum technologies.

Minister for Road Transport Shri C P John inaugurated the initiative, Quantum Technologies Interest Group, at an event titled ‘Quantum Tech Matrix’ here.

The group is envisaged as a collaborative community that connects learners, researchers and professionals interested in quantum computing, quantum communication, quantum sensing and related technologies through regular learning sessions, mentorship, workshops and industry engagement.

Quantum Technologies Interest Group is Kerala's first organised community focused exclusively on quantum technologies.  The initiative was launched under MuLearn, Kerala's large-scale student innovation and peer-learning platform supported by GTech (Group of Technology Companies).

The event brought together more than 50 students, faculty members, researchers, industry professionals and technology enthusiasts.

In his address, Shri John highlighted the need to prepare young talent for opportunities created under India's National Quantum Mission, considering importance of emerging technologies in shaping the country's future.

“Kerala has always been at the forefront of embracing new ideas. The launch of this quantum community is a significant step toward towards building the talent and ecosystem that India's National Quantum Mission demands,” The Minister added.

In his keynote address, Prof. Dr. Mathew Chandrankunnel CMI, Advisor to JIS University, Kolkata, explained the foundations of quantum mechanics and its scientific and philosophical significance, making complex concepts accessible to participants from diverse academic backgrounds.

On the occasion, Shri Manoj Joseph, Director of SuperQ Quantum, Canada, and mentor of the community, launched the Quantum Technologies Interest Group website, which will serve as a central platform for announcements, learning resources, events and community engagement, supporting the long-term growth of Kerala's quantum ecosystem.

Participants also experienced a live demonstration of ChatQLM, a quantum computing laboratory simulation platform powered by SuperQ Quantum and presented by application partner Nanostuffs Technologies Pvt. Ltd.

In a technical session on ‘Portfolio Optimization Using Quantum Computing’, Dr. Fathima Nihla Latheef introduced participants to how quantum algorithms can be applied to solve real-world financial optimization problems. The session demonstrated the growing relevance of quantum technologies across industries beyond traditional computing.

The group will conduct regular learning sessions, expert talks, office hours and collaborative activities to nurture a vibrant quantum technology community in Kerala and prepare learners for emerging opportunities in the field.
