Meet to spotlight on AI, diabetes tech, personalised care

Thiruvananthapuram, July 08: The 14th edition of the Annual Global Diabetes Convention will be held at Kovalam from July 10 to 12, bringing together leading diabetes specialists, physicians, researchers, nutritionists, diabetes educators and healthcare professionals from India and abroad.

The convention is organised by Jothydev's Professional Education Forum (JPEF) 2026. The focal theme of the event is "Helping You Choose the Best in Care."

The three-day event will focus on the latest evidence-based treatment approaches, emerging technologies and practical clinical strategies aimed at improving diabetes prevention, diagnosis and management.

Health Minister K Muraleedharan will deliver the inaugural address at the convention on July 11 at 4 pm at Uday Samudra, Kovalam. The plenary sessions and deliberations, however, will get underway on July 10. The minister will release the IJDT (International Journal of Diabetes and Technology)-JPEF Abstracts 2026 during the inaugural ceremony.

Recognised as one of India's leading academic forums dedicated to diabetes care, JPEF has been designed to help clinicians navigate the rapidly evolving treatment landscape by combining scientific evidence with real-world clinical practice.

The conference is being organised under the leadership of Dr Jothydev Kesavadev, organising Secretary of JPEF and Chairman and Managing Director of Jothydev's Diabetes Research Centre, along with Dr Arun Shankar, Organising Chairman, Sunitha Jothydev, Conference Director, Hariprasad, Convener, and Anjana Basanth, Scientific Coordinator. The scientific programme has been developed with guidance from a multidisciplinary committee comprising leading diabetes specialists from across India and internationally.

The three-day programme features expert lectures, panel discussions, debates, live patient interactions, hands-on workshops, technology demonstrations and a comprehensive Diabetes Technology Expo.

The event will see 2,500 healthcare professionals sharing their experience, insights and perspectives for three days of cutting-edge scientific learning across three parallel halls.

“With renowned international and national faculty, the convention will cover the latest advances in diabetes, obesity, cardiometabolic care, artificial intelligence, emerging therapies, breakthrough innovations and diabetes technologies through lectures, workshops, symposiums, and panel discussions. We are also proud to have received over 70 scientific abstracts from across India, reflecting the country’s growing commitment to diabetes research and innovation,” said Dr Jothydev Kesavadev.

The convention will feature an eminent faculty comprising internationally renowned diabetologists and researchers from Singapore, Austria, Nepal, Malaysia, Oman, the UAE, and Egypt, alongside more than 70 distinguished national experts from leading healthcare institutions in India.

Among the highlights of the event will be sessions exploring the next-generation obesity therapies, advances in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM), AI-driven personalised care, automated insulin delivery systems, stem cell research, Teplizumab for Type 1 diabetes, once-weekly basal insulin, inhaled insulin, geriatric diabetes management and body composition analysis for precision metabolic care.

The P. Kesavadev JPEF Award for the Best Young Researcher in Diabetes 2026, instituted to recognise outstanding young scientists contributing to diabetes research, will be presented during the conference. The award carries a cash prize of ₹1 lakh, a gold medal, a citation and a travel grant, encouraging innovation and scientific excellence among early-career researchers. JPEF Stalwart Physician Award and JPEF Scientific Excellence Award will also be presented during the event.

Selected research will receive wider visibility through publication opportunities in the International Journal of Diabetes and Technology, further promoting indigenous research and clinical innovation.

The organisers noted that diabetes continues to pose one of India's biggest public health challenges, making continued medical education increasingly important. By creating a platform where clinicians, researchers, diabetes educators and technology innovators can exchange knowledge and discuss emerging evidence, the convention aims to bridge the gap between research and clinical practice.

Besides scientific sessions, delegates will have opportunities to explore the latest developments in diabetes technologies through the dedicated expo showcasing innovations in glucose monitoring, insulin delivery, digital health solutions, and patient management tools.
