Revised price of Milma’s milk from June 1

Bulk of the hike goes to farmers

Thiruvananthapuram, May 31: The revised price of Milma’s milk will come into effect from tomorrow (June 1).

As per the revision, necessitated by spiralling production cost, the price of milk will go up by Rs 4 per litre.

The decision to increase the price was taken by a meeting of the Board of Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd, known by brand Milma, in the month of May.

Out of the increase, Rs 3.35 (83.75 per cent) will go to the dairy farmers and 25 paise to (6.25 per cent) to the dairy cooperative societies.

With this revision, the procurement price to the farmers will go up from Rs 40.04 to Rs 43.39 per litre.

The increase comes in the backdrop of steep rise in milk production cost and low returns hitting the dairy farmers in the state hard.

Also, adverse geo-political headwinds and subsequent rise in fuel prices had resulted in sharp rise in transportation, distribution and packaging costs of milk and milk products, caused by supply chain disruptions and higher price of essential materials like LDPE film, plastic bottles and cups. 

“All these factors have made a compelling case for a modest increase in milk price to sustain the cooperative dairy sector in the state,” Milma Chairman Shri K S Mani said.

For a while, the revised price will be printed on the existing stock of milk covers showing the previous price, Milma said, requesting the consumers to bear with this convenience till the present stocks are exhausted.
