Trivandrum / May 19, 2026

Thiruvananthapuram, May 19: Goethe-Zentrum in association with Banner Film Society will be screening award winning German movie ‘Sophie Scholl-The Final Days’ (2005), a biopic on anti-Nazi activist Sophie Scholl, here on Wednesday (May 20) at 6.30 pm.

Directed by Marc Rothemund and written by Fred Breinersdorfer, the film depicts the final days of Sophie Scholl, an iconic figure of the German resistance, who stood against Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. Sophie Scholl along with her brother Hans Scholl was eventually executed by the regime for handing out anti-Nazi leaflets in the University they studied.

The film was presented at the 55th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2005 and won Silver Bear awards for Best Director and Best Actress (Julia Jentsch). It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2006.
