Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 30: Five teams comprising budding innovators from schools and colleges in the state will get the Innovators Privilege Card of the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) that will ensure priority for them in accessing the benefits being offered by the nodal agency to promote innovative ventures in the startup ecosystem.

The innovators became eligible for the Innovators Privilege Card after successfully developing and showcasing prototypes of five products as part of the Young Innovators Programme (YIP), jointly conducted by the KSUM and the Kerala Development and Innovation Strategic Council (K-DISC).

The achievement will help them get priority in accessing KSUM’s schemes, grants, investment, mentoring, Fablab facility, cross sell platforms and incubation. Besides, the Privilege Card offers them free access to KSUM-organised summits and events like Big Demo Day.

The five prototypes have been developed young innovators from three institutions--Sanatana Dharma College, Alappuzha; St. George English Medium LP School, Chully, Angamaly; and SNHSS Pullamkulam, North Paravur. The showcased products are fingerprint bike starter, automatic water level indicator, utilization of water hyacinth, solar water heater and drier and energy-saving cooking vessels.

Commenting on the YIP project, KSUM CEO Shri Anoop Ambika said the innovative ideas from the younger minds are highly commendable and KSUM will give them essential support to take them to the next level.

“It’s significant that such riveting ideas are cropping up from the educational institutions in the state. We have to nurture the budding talents properly which will boost our efforts to ramp up the startup ecosystem,” he added.

YIP had given a funding support to a total of 15 selected projects in 2019.

Conceived by K-DISC, YIP aims to empower future innovators to come out with new products, services or models to meet emerging requirements, unarticulated needs, or existing market needs of the society more effectively through an innovation challenge.

KSUM, the nodal agency of the Kerala Government for entrepreneurship development and incubation activities in the state, is one of the key partners of K-DISC in implementing YIP.
