Kerala Tourism’s photo expo ‘Lenscape Kerala’ opens in city

Show spotlights splendours of Kerala in 100 frames by 10 top photographers

Surat, March 19: Kerala Tourism’s all-India photo exhibition ‘Lenscape Kerala’  opened at Vanita Vishram Art Gallery here today, featuring the God’s own Country’s panoramic nature, inclusive culture and lived experiences as an all-season destination in 100 frames from India’s 10 leading travel and media photographers.

Shri Dinesh Gurav, IAS, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, Surat Municipal Corporation, inaugurated the exhibition, as it reached the city after enthralling viewers in metros across the country, starting from New Delhi.

“This is a unique initiative that helps not only promote Kerala as an attractive destination but also narrates to viewers about the emotional, cultural and spiritual aspects of the state,” Shri Gurav said.

This creative outreach by Kerala Tourism Department serves an invitation to people of all states to visit and enjoy Kerala’s natural beauty, cultural richness and social cohesion.

“I congratulate the state Tourism Department for successfully coming out with this novel initiative that showcases the best of Kerala in excellent photographs”, he added.

The show will be open to public till March 21 from 11.00 AM to 7.00 PM.

The exhibition features a unique collection of photographs shot in various places of Kerala by the participating photographers who hail from different parts of India, capturing a range of themes such as heritage and architecture, backwaters, wildlife, festivals and spirituality and life of farming and coastal communities.

A country-first initiative, Lenscape Kerala is curated by eminent art curator and critic Uma Nair. Renowned wildlife and conservation photographer Balan Madhavan is the Director of Photography of the project.

The photographers who participated in the project are: H Satish, Kounteya Sinha, Shivang Mehta, Saibal Das, Umesh Gogna, Saurabh Chatterjee, Natasha Kartar Hemrajani, Aishwarya Sridhar, Amit Pasricha, Manoj Arora. They had travelled different places of the state, focusing on diverse themes, dear to each one of them.

According to Uma Nair, Lenscape Kerala promises to viewers a visual journey through many dimensions of Kerala in a manner that stimulates curiosity, deepens appreciation, and fosters an enduring sense of admiration.

The response to the show had been overwhelming in places it toured  so far, said Balan Madhavan.

The inaugural ceremony was followed by a walkthrough of the exhibition by Uma Nair.

Starting from New Delhi, the show had toured Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad, before reaching the city.  The exhibition will move on to Kolkata, its final destination, where it will run from March 27 to 29.
