Kochi / March 7, 2026
Kochi, Mar 7: India’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar today visited the Kochi-Muziris Biennale and took part in the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme) initiative aimed at promoting voter awareness and participation.
Mr Kumar said Kerala held a special place in his career. “Kerala was my karmabhoomi 22 years back, and now I have come back here to review the preparedness for the ensuing elections. All the political parties and the entire election machinery have assured that the elections in Kerala are going to be a model not only for the country but for the world,” he noted.
The CEC said it was a pleasure to participate in the SVEEP activities at the Biennale and extended his best wishes to voters in the state. “I wish all the voters from Kerala, particularly from Ernakulam, the very best for the elections,” he added.
The SVEEP initiative, launched earlier by IAS officers, creates a space where youngsters can sign and express their commitment to responsible voting. It aims to create awareness about the importance of voting and motivate citizens, especially youngsters, to take part in the electoral process.
Besides Mr Kumar, some other officials also visited the Biennale and endorsed the SVEEP campaign by signing the board, encouraging young people to support democratic participation through voting. They included Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) Managing Director Loknath Behera, Ashish Goyal, Director General (media) of Election Commission of India (ECI), and G. Priyanka, District Collector, Ernakulam.
