Indonesian cultural sailing vessel ‘Arka Kinari’ arrives in Kochi

Kochi, Feb. 08: Bringing with it a message of sustainability and art into the creative atmosphere of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, the Indonesian cultural sailing vessel ‘Arka Kinari’ has arrived in Kochi from Colombo. Artists and researchers aboard the vessel, which has travelled across oceans, are preparing to engage in dialogues with local communities in Kochi as well as with Biennale artists.

On February 9 and 10, from 10 am onwards, a special guided walkthrough titled ‘Laboratory of Sustainability & the Sea’, aimed at creating awareness about sustainable lifestyles, will be held at the Kochi International Marina, KTDC.

On February 10 at 3 pm, a workshop for children titled ‘Suara Bumi’, featuring storytelling and drawing, will be organised at the ABC Art Room Water Metro, Fort Kochi.

At the same venue, on February 13 at 3 pm, a unique musical journey titled ‘Laut Loud’, weaving together the musical cultures of various islands, will also be presented.

As the concluding event, on February 14 at 7.30 pm, a multimedia visual experience titled ‘Port Performance’ will be staged on a specially set-up platform aboard the Arka Kinari vessel itself, by travelling performers Grey Filistein, Nova Ruth and team.

Art lovers are warmly invited to take part in these distinctive experiences that connect Kochi’s cultural heritage with the importance of environmental conservation.

“Sharing the Indonesian experiences of being severe victims of climate change with different parts of the world through art and cultural practices by travelling aboard a vessel, Arka Kinari will offer a new experience for the people of Kochi and Biennale visitors,” said Blaise Joseph, Programme Head and Artist at ABC Art Room.
