KMB - 2025: Norway Ambassador May Elin Stener visits Biennale
Kochi / February 2, 2026
Kochi, Feb 3: Ms May Elin Stener, Ambassador of Norway to India, visited the Kochi- Muziris Biennale, describing it as a ‘people’s Biennale’ that stood out for its inclusiveness and fascinating artworks on display.
Accompanied by her spouse Espen Aasen and colleague Andreas Schei, she explored exhibitions at 111 Markaz and Aspinwall House.
Ambassador Stener said she had been looking forward to attending the Biennale ever since she arrived in Kochi nearly two years ago. “It is really great to be here at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale. The event brings together different cultures, artists from many nations, and strong Indian artistic practices,” she noted.
In particular, she expressed appreciation for the Biennale’s inclusive approach and highlighted the initiative of opening the exhibition to the public for free on select days every month as an important step in making art accessible to a wider audience. At 111 Markaz and Cafe, Mattancherry, the Ambassador visited the exhibit by Norwegian artist Sandra Mujinga.
Describing Mujinga’s work as fascinating, Ms Stener said she was especially impressed by the artist’s collaboration with the local community, including the use of fishnets in the installation. “I am very proud that a Norwegian artist is participating here and working closely with the local community in Kochi,” she added.
The Ambassador later visited Aspinwall House as part of her continued tour of the Biennale venues.
