Pronto plate lithography workshop to be held in Fort Kochi

Kochi, Jan 27: Pratibimb, a two-day hands-on printmaking workshop focused on pronto plate lithography, will be held from Wednesday as part of the ongoing Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB).

The workshop, to be held at the ABC Art Room, Water Metro, Fort Kochi, will be facilitated by artist and printmaker Jayasimha Chandrashekar.  Entry is free and open to all interested participants.

Pratibimb introduces participants to pronto plate lithography, a contemporary and accessible adaptation of traditional lithographic processes. Designed to demystify lithography, the workshop explores how simple materials and portable methods can be used to create expressive prints without the heavy infrastructure usually associated with the medium.

Over the two days (January 28 and 29), participants will work directly with grease-based drawing, texture, and mark-making while learning the fundamental water–oil chemistry that underpins lithographic printing.

The workshop places emphasis on process rather than perfection. Participants are encouraged to experiment freely, embrace immediacy, and engage with the tactile possibilities of printmaking.

As part of the workshop, attendees will learn plate preparation, image development, inking, and hand-printing techniques. They will also produce a small edition of prints by the end of the sessions.

Structured in both morning (9.30 am to 12.30 pm) and afternoon (3.00 pm to 6.00 pm) sessions, the workshop is suitable for beginners as well as artists seeking to expand their printmaking practice. No prior experience in lithography or printmaking is required.
