German Chancellor pats students of Goethe-Zentrum for language proficiency
Trivandrum / January 13, 2026
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 13: Two young students of Goethe-Zentrum, Trivandrum, had an opportunity to meet and interact with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Ahmedabad, during his two-day visit to India earlier this week.
The Chancellor was impressed by the German language proficiency of Mekha Jayakumar and Anjali Dileep, both trained nurses aspiring to work in Germany.
They were among seven students selected from different states to interact with the German Chancellor on Monday.
During the meeting, Mekha and Anjali spoke to the Chancellor in fluent German and promptly replied to the questions he asked.
Merz was highly impressed by the proficiency they have acquired in German though they have been through the course only for four months. Their knowledge about Germany as a country of big opportunities for trained professionals was also appreciated by the Chancellor.
Mekha and Anjali have been learning German at the Goethe-Zentrum Trivandrum since September as part of the Triple Win Program during which Mekha received a job offer to work at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
