Kochi, Jan 10: In a big boost to nature-bound tourism, the Kerala government has sanctioned Rs 7,70,90,000 to scale up amenities at Kadamakudy, a favourite destination for tourists and nature lovers in the Ernakulam district suburbs.

Kadamakudy is famous for its backwaters and the presence of migratory birds.

The fund has been sanctioned under the Rural Backwater Tourism Development Project at Kadamakudy to upgrade and create infrastructure, along with other amenities, in the rustic area.

Tourism Minister Shri PA Mohamed Riyas said the project has been conceived to enhance the scenic countryside's appeal, making it more captivating and equipped with modern facilities.

“With the completion of the project, the pristine Kadamakudy will get a significant facelift. Its waterways and serene charm will leave a lasting impression on the tourists,” he noted.

According to a Government Order (GO) in this regard, the project shall be implemented in accordance with the government's guidelines for the execution of public works through government-accredited agencies only.

The Director of Tourism shall take further necessary action to implement the project in accordance with the guidelines as per the existing GO, it adds.

Last month, industrialist Mr Anand Mahindra visited Kadamakudy and described it as “One of the most beautiful villages on Earth” on his social media page.
