KMB 2025: ABC Art Room to hold workshop ‘Pralayam.Prathidinam’ on challenges faced by coastal communities

Kochi / January 12, 2026

Kochi, Jan 12: ABC Art Room workshop, an initiative of the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF), will hold tomorrow ‘Pralayam.Prathidinam’, Understanding the Threat: Climate Change, Tides, and Flooding, the first of the three-part series focusing on the urgent challenges faced by the coastal communities.

Facilitated by Grassroute (Movement for Sustainable Survival), the workshop will be held at Rewild, North Paravur, from 10 am to 4.30 pm on Tuesday.

This workshop focuses on understanding the growing risk of coastal flooding intensified by the climate change, rising sea levels, and the impact of man-made interventions such as canal and field reclamation.

Through expert talks, lived experiences, and interactive sessions, participants will explore how tidal patterns, storm surges, and local geography—especially canal systems—contribute to recurring floods in coastal regions.

The sessions will feature key concepts such as sea-level rise, tidal hydrodynamics, and the interpretation of flood risk maps, bringing together scientific perspectives and lived realities, including firsthand accounts from those affected by tidal flooding.

The session will conclude with participatory art activities that encourage reflection, expression, and dialogue around climate vulnerability and resilience.

Entry is free and no registration is required.
