MG University, Muziris Heritage Projects sign MoU

Kochi, Jan. 07: Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) and Muziris Projects Ltd (MPL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday to collaborate on research, academic programmes and outreach initiatives in heritage conservation and allied fields.

The MoU was exchanged between MGU Vice-Chancellor Dr. C. T. Aravindakumar and Shri Sharon V, Managing Director of Muziris Projects Ltd, on the sidelines of the International Spice Routes Conference here.

Under the agreement, MGU and MPL will jointly identify themes, issues, and focus areas for research in heritage conservation, cultural history, and heritage engagement.

The MoU paves the way for specialized MG University certified undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in Heritage Interpretation, Museum Management, Art & Community-Oriented Tourism, and Sustainability & Heritage Studies conducted by Muziris Heritage Project.

The collaboration will also involve identifying heritage sites, museums, archives, local communities, and thematic field areas for joint research and outreach activities, while facilitating institutional and field-level partnerships wherever required.

MPL will integrate research findings, innovations, and experiential knowledge emerging from the collaboration into its heritage interpretation, museum programming, public outreach, and capacity-building initiatives. MGU will provide academic support in curriculum development, research design, and scholarly inputs.

The School of Gandhian Thought and Development Studies (SGTDS) of MGU will serve as the nodal agency on behalf of MGU for implementing the joint initiatives, with a sub-centre to be soon set up at an MHP location.

This MoU with MG University is part of Muziris Heritage Projects’ aim to develop Kerala as a hub for educational tourism, with Muziris evolving as a unique learning destination that blends history, culture, and leisure and an affirmation of Kerala’s vision of becoming a knowledge and creative economy.
