CBL-5: Pride Chasers earn triple hat-trick at Kallada

Kollam, Nov. 29: The ninth match of the fifth season of the Champions Boat League (CBL-5) earned Pride Chasers a triple hat-trick today, as the snake-boat emerged victorious in all the matches of the IPL-style water festival organised by Kerala Tourism.
At Kallada, Pride Chasers (Kainakary Village Boat Club which owns the Veeyapuram Chundan) clocked 3.35:545 minutes to win the race, pushing reigning champions Tropical Titans (3.36:997) to the second position and Backwater Kings (3.38:750) to the third.
The first half of the final race this evening saw all three boats were on equal footing, leaving the cheering spectators unsure about the leading team. Into halfway, Pride Chasers took the lead by 50 meters. Meanwhile, a stiff competitions arose between Tropical Titans (Melpadam chundan of Pallathuruthy Boat Club) and Backwater Kings (Niranam snake-boat, owned by Niranam Boat Club), as both teams showed matching strength.
However, into the last quarter, Pride Chasers finished first undisputedly. And, into the final 300 meters, Tropical Titans overtook Backwater Kings to become the runner-up.
The finish positions in Kallada are as follows: Chundan Warriors (Naduvele Paramban of Immanuel Boat Club) fourth, Ripple Breakers (Nadubhagam of Punnamada Boat Club) fifth, Thunder Oars (Karichal of KCBC) sixth, Backwater Chargers (Cheruthana of Thekkekkara Boat Club) seventh, Backwater Warriors (Payipadaan of Kumarakom Town Boat Club) eighth and Wave Gliders Champakulam (Changanassery Boat Club) ninth.
Kollam District Collector N Devidas inaugurated today’s competitions. Kerala Tourism Joint Director Abhilash Kumar T.G. (CBL Nodal Officer), CBL State Coordinator Dr A Ansar K.A.S. and Kollam Deputy Director Shanavas Khan A.R. besides CBL Technical Committee members participated, among others.
The District Collector distributed prizes to the winners.
The club that wins the championship will receive Rs 25 lakh. The runner-up will get Rs 15 lakh; the third-place winner Rs 10 lakh. The top three winners of each race receive Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively. Each team will also get a bonus of Rs 4 lakh.
