National Milk Day: Milma’s Kollam dairy to allow public on Nov 24, 25

Kollam, Nov. 18: Milma’s Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (TRCMPU) has made arrangements for the public to visit its Kollam Dairy at Thevally on November 24 and 25, as part of its National Milk Day celebrations.

Visitors to the dairy will be able to see how the plant processes milk and makes other dairy products from 10 am to 5 pm.

As part of the National Milk Day celebrations, a quiz competition, on November 20 and a painting competition on November 21 for high school students, will also be held. The competitions will be held at the Milma Dairy at Thevally from 10.00 am. Schools in the district can send one team each for the competitions.

The country celebrates November 26 as the National Milk Day, coinciding with the birth anniversary of the late Dr Verghese Kurien, the father of India’s White Revolution.

The visit to the dairy will give a good idea of its functioning including various processes before milk in sachets reach retail outlets. Visitors will be able to see how milk, collected from milk producers’ cooperative societies, is pasteurised and sterilized at the dairy and how the consumable milk is filled in packets using advanced technology and machinery.

The visitors will also be taken through the manufacturing process of Milma’s other products like ghee, paneer and butter milk. They can also buy Milma products at discounted rates on these days.
