Kovalam beach to have new street lights, CC TV system

Govt. approves two projects with outlay of Rs 1.19 cr

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 5: Continuing its efforts to upgrade infrastructure in prime tourist destinations, Kerala government has approved two proposals for enhancing the security at Kovalam beach and surrounding areas at a total cost of Rs 1.19 crore.

The proposals cover installation of new street light and CCTV system for outdoor surveillance.

Both the projects will be implemented by the public sector KELTRON Ltd., which had also prepared a report and a proposal in this regard.

Under the first project, which will come at an estimated cost of Rs. 80,59,022, existing street light will be dismantled and replaced with new ones. The installation of new streetlights will be completed within five months. This project proposal includes a three-year warranty

Under the second proposal, KELTRON Ltd. will dismantle the existing CCTV infrastructure and install & commission new outdoor surveillance system at the beach area at a cost of Rs. 38,08,410.

The project, which is to be completed within three months, includes a two-year Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract (CAMC) as well.
