Calicut FC to Unveil its Star Team Today

Kozhikode, Sep 19: Calicut FC, the champions of the inaugural Super League Kerala, will show-case its new look football team for the second edition of the tournament today. The mega launch function, where the individual team members will be introduced to the public, will commence at the Kozhikode beach at 4 pm. The team features 6 renowned overseas players and 5 national level players with the rest from Kerala in a squad of 31. Internationally acclaimed Ever Demalde from Argentina is the head coach and Biby Thomas Muttath, former head coach of the Kerala State team for the Santhosh Trophy, is the assistant coach.
The four-hour long gala function will be a cultural extravaganza for the public featuring penalty shoot outs, football-themed challenges and contests. The main function at 6.30 pm will be inaugurated by Shri V Abdurahiman, Minister for sports in the presence of Shri MK Raghavan MP, Shri Abdul Wahab MP and Shri Ahamed Devarkovil. CFC’s brand ambassador and Cine artiste Shri Basil Joseph will lead the ‘Kick the Habit – Say No to Drugs’ campaign, the theme of Calicut FC for this season, and interact with the crowd. The team introduction will be facilitated by renowned sports journalist and commentator Shri Shaiju Damodran. The function will conclude with a musical performance by rapper and songwriter Fejo and team.

The Calicut FC team has been practicing at the JDT Islam Arts and Science College ground since the second half of August. The team would travel to Goa later this week to play friendly matches against FC Goa and Dempo SC as part of its preparations. Super League Kerala 2025 will kick off on October 2nd at EMS stadium Kozhikode. As a tribute to the football loving people of the city, both the semi-finals and the finals will be held in Kozhikode. The two month-long tournament will be played between six teams from Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram.
