State sanctions Rs 2.45 cr for Vilangan Kunnu makeover

Thrissur, Sept. 25: The state government today granted administrative sanction for the second phase of upgradation and infrastructure creation activities at Vilangan Kunnu near here with an outlay of Rs 2.45 crore.
The project aims to create amenities and conduct renovation activities at the lush green Vilangan Kunnu, popularly known as the ‘Oxygen Jar’ of Thrissur. The serene hillock is also replete with innumerable flora and fauna. The project is part of the Government’s initiatives to promote unexplored and less-visited destinations.
As per the GO, the second phase of infrastructure activities includes the renovation of the toilet block, old pathway steps, restaurant, seminar hall, open gym, Butterfly Park, and signage.
Kerala Tourism Director had submitted the detailed proposal before the Departmental Working Group on Plan Schemes. The sanction was accorded after going through this proposal.
The work will be executed through the Department of Tourism and will be completed within a period of 12 months.
