Kochi, August 23: Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan today inaugurated the work of the Rs. 600-crore Adani Logistics Park at Kalamasserry on Saturday, stating that the big-ticket project will open new avenues for Kerala’s industrial development and strengthen the state’s global connectivity.

The Chief Minister also announced on the occasion that the work on the second phase of the Vizhinjam Port will begin soon.

Adani Logistics Park is one of the major projects yielded by the Invest Kerala Global Summit (IKGS), organised by the State Government here in February earlier this year.

The project, coming up at a 70-acre site, has the potential to create around 1,500 direct employment opportunities,” said Shri Vijayan.

“The facility with its integrated logistic capabilities, advanced technology and sustainable development model will mark Kerala on the national and global industrial map. This project has the potential to raise the state’s socio-economic stature through integrated development and industrial growth,” the Chief Minister said.

The Adani Group has pledged an investment of Rs. 30,000 crores for the development of Vizhinjam Port and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, he said.

Major projects in the region such as Kochi Metro, International Airport, Water Metro and Infopark have refuted the propaganda that Kerala is not an industry friendly state, he said.

Big companies like Nissan, Airbus, TCS, Tech Mahindra, Tata Elxsi have already started functioning in Kerala. State’s IT export has reached Rs. 1 lakh crores, he said.

As part of the Year of Enterprises programme, more than 3.75 lakh enterprises had started in Kerala with a total investment of Rs. 23,000 crore and generating 7.5 lakh employment opportunities, said Shri Vijayan.

The Logistics Park, on completion, will be a boost to e-commerce, FMCG, automobile and retail pharma, he noted. It can significantly reduce transportation costs and help develop more MSMEs in the region, he added.

The Adani Logistics Park is the 97th project from IKGS to reach the construction phase, said Minister for Industries, Law and Coir, Shri P Rajeeve in his presidential address. So far, projects worth Rs. 35,284.75 cr that came up at IKGS, have had their foundation stones laid. Over 50360 employment opportunities will be created through these projects, Shri Rajeeve added.

Adani Logistics Park will act as an anchor industry which will create an ecosystem for other businesses to grow, said Shri P Rajeeve.

On improving infrastructure in the region, he said Rs. 580 crores have been allocated from KIIFB funds for the development of the airport-seaport road. Land acquisition for this project is progressing in a swift manner.

Referring to the steps taken for enhancing Ease Of Doing Business, he said local bodies have made more than hundred regulatory reforms for improving the industry friendly atmosphere in the state.

In the backdrop of uncertainties triggered by the tariff increase by the US, logistics parks play a vital role by opening a world of new opportunities, said Shri VD Satheesan, Leader of Opposition.

Shri Satheesan assured the opposition’s support for Kerala’s socio-economic growth and noted that it had not created any disruption in the industrial sector in last four and half years.

Shri APM Mohammed Hanish, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce; GCDA Chairman Shri K Chandran Pillai; Shri Ashwani Gupta, CEO, Adani Ports and SEZ Ltd.; Shri Pankaj Bhardwaj, Business Head, Adani Agri Logistics; Shri Pradeep Jayaraman, CEO, Adani Vizhinjam Port and Shri Ashish Mehra Nandi, Head of Warehouse also attended the function.
