Milma’s TRCMPU to launch Bottle Milk on August 19; priced at Rs. 70 a litre
TRCMPU earmarks 4.8 Cr for disbursal of Onam bonus to farmers

Thiruvananthapuram, August 18: Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union (TRCMPU) of Milma will be launching bottle milk on Tuesday (August 19), further consolidating Milma’s position as the market leader of dairy products.
Minister for Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Smt J Chinchurani will officially unveil the new product at a function at Hotel Dimora here at 11 am. Finance Minister Shri KN Balagopal will preside over the function, where the best performing dealers will be honoured.
Disclosing this at a press conference here today, TRCMPU Chairman Smt Mani Vishwanadh said the new product named ‘Milma Cow Milk’ will initially reach the sales outlets of Milma, its agencies in Thiruvananthapuram district, in one litre bottle priced at Rs. 70. Subsequently, it will reach Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts as well.
“Milma Cow Milk in one litre bottle is high-quality milk procured from select Milma units under TRCMPU, ensuring high nutritional value unlike similar products available in the market,” said Smt Mani Vishwanadh said.
Also, as part of Onam, an additional incentive of Rs. 6 per litre of milk will be given for the milk procured by regional union in the month of July. Of this Rs. 6, the farmers will be given an incentive of Rs. 4 per litre of milk and Rs. 1 per litre for dairy cooperative societies, and Rs. 1 will be credited as their additional share in TRCMPU, she noted. An amount of Rs. 4.8 crores has been earmarked for this purpose. This amount is met from the profit gained by TRCMPU from the start of this financial year.
The TRCMPU board has also approved the decision to provide up to Rs. 25,000 to farmers during medical emergencies, she added.
TRCMPU introduced 30 new projects this financial year, aimed at the economic and social wellbeing of the dairy farmers affiliated to its network. These include financial aid for education of farmers’ children, medical aid, solatium to the next of kin of farmers who died, pension scheme for farmers, These have been introduced by the present board of directors took charge, she said.
Last year TRCMPU made a record profit of Rs. 39 crores and 85% of this profit was given back to our farmers as incentives, she added.
Milma Cow Milk will contain 3.2 % fat and 8.5% Solids Non Fats. The bottle used for the ‘Cow Milk’ is made of high quality food grade plastic and the product has a shelf life of three days if refrigerated.
The new product will be distributed in the market through Milma agents, wholesale distributors, re-distributors, super markets like Lulu and Reliance and online sales platforms.
In an effort to popularise the new product among customers, Milma has planned a lucky draw contest. Ten customers who buy Milma’s bottle milk on August 20, 21 will be selected through a lucky draw using the five-digit number given along with batch-code on the bottle and each winner will receive a prize worth Rs. 15000. The winners will be announced through media on August 23 and the prizes will be distributed at a function to be held on August 26 at Milma Ksheera Bhavan.
Customers buying two bottles of Cow Milk from supermarkets on August 20 will get 500 ml of Milma’s Homogenised toned milk as free.
KR Mohanan Pillai, Member TRCMPU Board, said the agreement signed by Milma with Travancore Devaswom Board for supply of ghee for Sabarimala temple during the pilgrim season is a historic one.
TRCMPU has received the order to supply around 170 tonnes of Milma ghee to Sabarimala and allied temples during October and November this year, he said, adding “we are also trying to get permission to set up a stall at Sabarimala.”
