AI is pervading but not part of critical-mission system of firms: Experts

‘Tech Disruptors & Digital Evolution’: AI, Automation & Industry 4.0’ session held at TRIMA-2025
Trivandrum / July 31, 2025

Thiruvananthapuram, July 31: Although artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly proliferating, it is not yet part of the mission-critical systems of companies, experts at the annual management convention of the Trivandrum Management Association (TMA), TRIMA-2025, have said.

“Adoption of AI is the latest trend, but practically it has not been taken as a system whose reliable operation is essential for the success of a company,” said Mr Vinod Khader, Executive Director, IBM Kochi.

“The majority of companies are experimenting with AI to the next level, but only in the peripheries of their operation,” he said while speaking at a session on ‘Tech Disruptors & Digital Evolution’: AI, Automation & Industry 4.0’ at the July 30-31 event.

Mr Khader highlighted the importance of establishing a governance and regulation system for AI, emphasizing the need to build confidence and trust around it.

Ms Suja Chandy, Chief Sustainability Officer & MD, Zafin, said the fintech company has an AI-powered platform that helps with product and pricing innovation. Based on the relationship the bank has with a customer, this platform provides the proper set of products at the right rates and fees or offers.

“Our technologists build these products for banks. The biggest thing for us with AI is how do we enhance customer experience and create operational efficiency. The speed at which we are able to deliver is mind-blowing. Still, we have humans overseeing AI operations at the firm,” Ms Chandy said.

According to her, AI will definitely impact jobs, and it will do away with traditional jobs, though it creates new job opportunities. Due to a lack of training, AI will be challenging and complex for youngsters entering the field and individuals at any career level, unless they undergo a process of unlearning and relearning.

Mr Pradeep Jayaraman, CEO of Adani Vizhinjam Port, said AI disruption is already on in the logistics sector, where it has been leveraged for activities like whole warehouse design and storing.

Commenting on Deepfake, Mr Jayaraman said it is a potential threat and we need to take multiple steps to deal with it.

Talking about reigning in the threats arising out of AI, he suggested educating and training people, besides taking proactive actions and bringing in regulations.

Mr Raj Nair, Chairman of Avalon Consulting, who was the Session Chair, opined that AI, being an exponential technology, will surpass human intelligence in power.

The event has an impressive line-up of speakers who share their ideas and perspectives on various topics, including sustaining economic growth, leveraging new technologies, and adopting best practices in business and governance.

“Leadership for an Emerging World – Navigating Technology, Entrepreneurship & Social Well-being” is the central theme of the flagship event, coinciding with TMA’s Ruby Jubilee.

Established in 1985 and affiliated with the All-India Management Association (AIMA), TMA has evolved as one of India’s premier management forums. Its members include CEOs, industry leaders, and decision-makers who are committed to promoting management excellence and fostering sustainable development, particularly within Kerala.
