Govt sanctions Rs 4 cr to scale up facilities at Kappad Beach

Sanction comes for phase-2 of Kappad Beach project

Kozhikode, June 25: In a major boost to beach tourism in north Kerala, the State Government has given Administrative Sanction of Rs 4 crore to scale up facilities at Kappad Blue Flag Beach in the district.

 The amount will be used for taking up a range of works as part of the multi-phase project drawn up by the Tourism Department, aimed at ramping up tourist footfall to the historically and culturally famed site on the Malabar coast.

 “Kerala’s panoramic and pristine beaches have always been a major tourist attraction, receiving both domestic and international tourists. The Government gives high priority to beach tourism by improving facilities at important coastal destinations,” Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas said.

 The development of Kappad Beach, by creating world class amenities, will mark the Malabar region on the world tourism map, considering the historical and cultural significance of the site, the Minister added.

 The proposal in this regard was examined in and recommended for sanction by the Departmental Working Group that met on May 31.

 The Government had earlier sanctioned Rs 99.90 lakh for execution of works under the initial phase of the project for maintenance and beautification of the beach.

 The works to be taken up under upcoming phase include construction of compound wall, open wall, canteen, rain shelters, landscaping, civil and electrical works, installation of solar panels, interlocking, repair and maintenance and maintenance of existing buildings and water lines, purchase of children’s play equipment, mechanical works and advertisement and publicity.

 The works will be executed by incorporating the design parameters laid out in the blueprint considering the historical and cultural significance of the site.
