Govt allots Rs1.12 cr for renovation of Munnar, Devikulam guesthouses

Idukki, June 26: The government has allotted Rs 1,12,75,000 for the renovation of Government Guesthouses under the Tourism Department in Munnar and Devikulam of the hill-district.
While Rs 58.3 lakh has been allocated for the renovation of the guest house in Munnar, works totalling Rs 54.45 lakh will be taken up in Devikulam guest house. The works will be completed within eight months and six months respectively.
Tourism and Public Works Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas said these renovation works will enable ordinary people to enjoy their vacations in both the scenic places. “Munnar and Devikulam are among the major tourism destinations, with modern facilities at a low cost,” he noted. “Guesthouses to the public generate good revenue for the government.”
The Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited has prepared the estimate for the renovation of Munnar and Devikulam.
The main works at Munnar include renovation of the existing building , guardroom, complete electrification and signage. As for Devikulam, the works chiefly feature building construction, underground water storage and public toilets, besides electrical repairs.
