KSWIFT facilitates MSMEs to manage professional tax issues
Trivandrum / June 13, 2025
Thiruvananthapuram, June 13: Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the state can leverage the single-window online platform, KSWIFT, launched by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), to manage their professional tax registration in a hassle-free manner, by avoiding multiple physical visits to fulfil the requirement.
Professional Tax, levied by local bodies - municipalities, corporations and panchayats, on employees, professionals, and businesses, is one of the statutory obligations to be fulfilled by MSMEs.
MSMEs can apply for registration through KSWIFT (Kerala Single Window Interface for Fast and Transparent Clearance), https://kswift.kerala.gov.in/index/, set up as part of the Government’s pioneering initiatives to enhance Ease of Doing Business (EoDB).
Businesses can apply and manage their Professional Tax registration by submitting necessary licenses and certificates. This helps enterprises to focus on their business, skipping cumbersome paper work and making personal appearance before authorities concerned, unnecessary.
KSWIFT was introduced to make setting up and operating businesses easier, by offering a variety of services to businesses, particularly MSMEs, by quick facilitation of government approvals. It facilitates entrepreneurs to apply for all necessary approvals from different government departments through a single online system, eliminating procedural delays and significantly speeding up the approval process.
Kerala has been seeing a surge in registration of MSMEs primarily due to the launch of the ‘Year of Enterprises’ initiative in 2023, and today around 3.5 lakh new ventures have started in Kerala.
The EoDB measures and procedural reforms initiated by the Government has triggered this growth in a sustainable and inclusive manner, Minister for Industries, Law and Coir, Shri P Rajeeve said.
“Among the new entrepreneurs, 31 percent are women led and SC/ST communities have representation of four percent each while more than 50 percent of entrepreneurs are from OBC categories. The transgender community has also benefited from the scheme,” the Minister said. The introduction of payment of Professional Tax through the KSWIFT portal is expected to boost this initiative, he added.
KSIDC is the government’s primary agency for promoting industrial and entrepreneurial growth in Kerala.
