Milma to fete Commonwealth Games medal winners from Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 09: The Kerala Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), known by its brand name Milma, will felicitate sportspersons from Kerala who won medals at the 22nd Commonwealth Games (CWG) that concluded in Birmingham, UK, on August 8.  

Milma Chairman Shri K S Mani said the stupendous performance of Keralites at the CWG 2022 had helped the nation move up in the overall medal position. 

Shri Mani said Milma is planning to conduct a grand felicitation ceremony to honour the sportspersons, who did the country proud. The date and venue of the felicitation ceremony will be decided as per the convenience of the medallists.      

The sportspersons from Kerala, who won medals in the July 28-August 8 CWG are triple-jumpers Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboobacker, long-jumper M Sreeshankar, badminton player Treesa Jolly, squash player Deepika Pallikkal and hockey player PR Sreejesh, who was the goalkeeper of Indian team that won silver.   

Eldhose Paul scripted history by lifting gold in Men's triple jump, becoming the first Keralite to win an individual gold at the CWG and the sixth Indian to win a CWG gold since Milkha Singh in 1958. Abdulla Aboobacker won silver in the same event.   

Treesa Jolly along with Gayatri Gopichand won the Women's Doubles bronze and Mixed Doubles silver in badminton while M Sreeshankar won silver in Men’s Long-Jump.
