Minister holds talks with scientists at CSIR-NIIST campus

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 30: Tamil Nadu Minister for Industries, Investment Promotions and Commerce Dr T R B Rajaa today said the Tamil Nadu Government is keen to leverage the transformative technologies and innovative solutions developed by CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST) for enhancing the productivity of agriculture, industrial and MSME sectors of his state.
On a visit to the NIIST campus at Pappanamcode in the city, Dr Rajaa held discussions with CSIR-NIIST Director Dr. C. Anandharamakrishnan and senior scientists of the institute.
The Minister said his state will explore the avenues of collaborative initiatives with CSIR-NIIST, a premier Research and Development campus of the country, which has successfully developed and transferred technologies and solutions for sustainable development of industrial and agriculture sectors.
Dr Rajaa said Tamil Nadu wants to leverage the institute’s advanced research and technological expertise to address the challenges faced by his state’s industries and farming communities.
“We want farmers get benefitted through their increased productivity. The Tamil Nadu Government is actively seeking fresh ideas and innovative solutions to uplift our agricultural, industrial, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) sectors. Collaborations with premier institutions like CSIR-NIIST will pave the way for transformative advancements that benefit all stakeholders,” he noted.
Dr Rajaa also emphasized the Tamil Nadu Government’s commitment to fostering innovation and ensuring that scientific advancements directly benefit farmers and industrialists by improving productivity and profitability.
Dr Rajaa took a tour of the various state-of-the-art research facilities set up on the campus.
During the interaction, Dr. Anandharamakrishnan highlighted the institute’s ongoing efforts in developing scalable technologies and expressed willingness to work closely with the Tamil Nadu Government to implement solutions tailored to the state’s needs.
“The Minister’s visit underscores Tamil Nadu’s proactive approach in fostering partnerships with premier research institutions to drive inclusive growth and sustainable development,” Dr Anandharamakrishnan said.
The collaborative effort promises to usher in a new era of innovation, ensuring tangible benefits for the people of Tamil Nadu, he said.
The discussions explored multiple areas of potential collaboration, including in agri-based industries where developing value-added products and technologies will enhance farmers’ income and sustainability initiatives. Possibilities of enhancing Tamil Nadu’s healthcare, hydrogen value chain productivity and supporting MSMEs were also discussed.
Besides, seamless integration of CSIR-NIIST’s innovations into Tamil Nadu’s industrial ecosystem through technology transfer and advancing research and innovation in healthcare was also broached.
NIIST is a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research and National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science (CSIR).
