ERCMPU increases premium subsidy to Rs 1000 for cattle insurance

Kochi, Nov.19: Ernakulam Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (ERCMPU) Chairman Shri M T Jayan today announced that the premium subsidy given to dairy farmers to insure their cattle has been increased from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 per cow. Dairy farmers of about 1000 dairy cooperative societies from Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam and Idukki districts will be the beneficiaries of this insurance scheme.

A farmer can avail the premium subsidy for a maximum of four cows. The increased subsidy rates will be effective from November 20. A decision to this effect was taken by the Governing Body.

The cattle insurance camp under the comprehensive insurance project of the Regional Union conducted under the supervision of Milma’s veterinary doctors has been providing mineral mixture for six months for the cattle along with other benefits. 

The project to give fodder to cooperative societies at the rate of Rs 2 per kilo will be resumed from December 1 as per Regional Union’s norms. The silage distribution at subsidised rate of Rs 2 per kilogram will continue, said Shri Jayan.
