Kochi, Nov 11: The Kerala government will utilise all the land it acquired for industrial parks in the state by the end of next month, Industries Minister Shri P Rajeeve said today.
Inaugurating a review session on the state’s ‘Year of Enterprises’ initiative and mapping out the department’s future goals, the Minister lauded the officials for their “dedicated efforts” that enabled Kerala to emerge as the leader among the states in ‘Ease of Doing Business Reforms’ as per the latest rankings of the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
The campaign, which got under way in 2022-23 fiscal, bore fruits through sustained efforts and saw the department, in the first nine months, crossing its original target of opening of 100,000 enterprises. The present figure stands beyond 3,25,000.
As for district-wise break-up, Thiruvananthapuram leads in the number of enterprises, while Ernakulam topped in attracting investment. The Year of Enterprises initiative has generated over 6,00,000 job opportunities, with women entrepreneurs driving 1,03,988 of them.
Today’s event also saw the launch of a website of the PMFME (Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises), boosting support to small-scale food-processors across Kerala.
Inspired by the success of these new ventures, the government will organise a ‘Women Entrepreneurs Summit’ in January in Kochi, the Minister said. The department, as part of its digital transformation, has also transitioned all of its services online, providing easier access and transparency.
To date, the state government has approved 31 private industrial parks, with land designated exclusively for the purpose, Shri Rajeeve said. Highlighting the recent policy reforms, the Minister reiterated his appeal to the officials to engage “more actively” with both the public and industry stakeholders to communicate the department’s progressive strides and support to local businesses.
Among others who spoke were Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce Shri APM Mohammed Hanish, KSIDC Managing Director Shri S Harikishore, Director of Industries and Commerce, Shri K Gopalakrishnan, KINFRA Managing Director Santhosh Koshy Thomas and Additional Director of Industries Shri Rajeev G. Representatives from various industry associations were also present.
