SLK: Actor-director Basil Joseph is brand ambassador of Calicut FC

Kozhikode, Sep. 09: Basil Joseph, leading director and actor of Malayalam cinema, is the brand ambassador of Calicut FC for the two-month-long Super League Kerala (SLK) football tournament,as the squad is all set to lock horns with ThirvananthapuramKombans inits inaugural home ground match at the EMS Corporation Stadium here on Tuesday (September 10)

Basil Joseph will be present at the stadium to cheer the team and its fans during match, and will also give away the prize to the winner of the lucky dip tied with the ticket sale of the match.

A gifted director, script writer and actor, young Basil Joseph has been an active presence in Malayalam cinema for nearly a decade.  The movies he directed and the roles he essayed, resonating with anxieties and dilemmas of  youth flavoured with humour, have been received well by viewers as well as reviewers ever since his directorial debut ‘KunjiRamayanam.’

“The presence of avibrant film talent of basil’s calibre and versatility will impart an added thrust and motivation to the competitive spirit of Calicut FC,” the team’s franchisee and IBS Software founder Executive Chairman Mr V K Mathews said.

The ticket for the match can be reserved through the Paytm insider app.

With internationally-renowned Ian Andrew Gillan as coach, the super-fit Calicut FC is led by dashing midfielder Jijo Joseph Muttath the inaugural SLK match. Besides Kozhikode, the matches of the tournament will be played out in Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram and Manjery.

The SLK, which kicked off   on September 7 in Kochi, has teams representing  Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram, Thrissur, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram,slugging it out for the coveted trophy that carries a prize-money of Rs 1.50 crore.

Calicut FC will play five matches at the home-ground EMS Corporation Stadium. EMS Corporation stadium will feature the largest number of matches: 11 out of the total 33. This includes the first semi-final on November 5. The finals will be played in Kochi on November 10. All matches will be covered live on Star Sports and Disney Hotstar.

All the matches will be played at 7.30 pm to suit the TV and in-stadia viewership pattern of the football-crazy citizenry of the state.
