Genrobotic launches manhole cleaning robot Bandicoot at HSVP Panipat

Panipat / July 13, 2024

Panipat, July 13: Genrobotic Innovations, a leader in advanced robotic solutions for dangerous tasks, today unveiled ‘Bandicoot’, the internationally acclaimed manhole cleaning robot, at Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) here, marking a milestone in the fight against the obnoxious practice of manual scavenging.

The award-winning Bandicoot was unveiled at a function attended by Haryana Minister of Development, Panchayats, and Co-operation Shri Mahipal Dhanda, who handed over the key in a symbolic gesture to the officials to highlight the government’s determination to stamp out this repulsive practice that is fraught with severe health risks.

“The inauguration ceremony of Bandicoot at HSVP Panipat marks a significant advancement in implementing robotic solutions for sewer cleaning, aligning with the nationwide effort to eradicate manual scavenging, which has been banned under the Manual Scavenging Act of 2013. This demonstrates the city's commitment to eliminate manual scavenging and embrace advanced technology for public service,” Shri Dhanda said.

Developed by Genrobotic Innovations, a Kerala-based startup that specializes in advanced robotics, AI and machine learning, Bandicoot, the world’s first robotic scavenger, has been hailed as a groundbreaking innovation in the field of robotic sewer solutions. It is currently being implemented in 19 states and three Union Territories, including Haryana.

By fully integrating this groundbreaking technology, Panipat has emulated the example of several other towns and cities in asserting that manual scavenging is not only possible, but also inevitable with the Bandicoot robot. .

Developed in 2018, the pneumatic-powered, remote-controlled robot, on being sent down a manhole, removes sewage by spreading its robotic arm capable of 360-degree motion. It is equipped with advanced features like high-definition cameras, robust arms for debris removal, and high-tech sensors for navigation, rendering it an invaluable asset for urban sanitation departments, thus reducing the reliance on human intervention in hazardous environments.

Designed with the help of Google launch pad, Bandicoot is easy to operate, equipped as it is with a user-friendly interface.

Genrobotics was honoured with several Startup Awards while its founders have been featured in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia list.
