Wonder kid’s startup big draw at GenAI Conclave

Kochi / July 11, 2024

Kochi, July 11: It was a phone call to his paternal grandma that led this 15-year-old to his first patent in artificial intelligence and the boundless world it opened.

When Uday Shankar, who hails from Thammanam in the city, made the call, his grandmother was immersed in something else. She promised him to call back.

The child was impatient and was not ready to wait.

He decided to create her digitally and make her talk using artificial intelligence. And that’s how his startup, Urav Advanced Learning Systems, was born.

He also got an Indian patent for his maiden invention on a humanoid AI Kiosk with extensive Indian language support with the Bhashini APP.

He has been interested in technology since early childhood, and he ended conventional school education while in Class VIII and turned to open schooling.

This kid works wonders sitting in his home office. ClinAlka, using the MultiTalk Avatar AI suite, helps one easily talk to any native speaker in their chosen language.

“It works best in public places like airports where you hardly find people who understand your language,” says the wonder kid.

“It can help detect infectious diseases fast and immediately contain them at the bottom level before spreading in a multilingual community.”

In addition, Uday has developed an app for blind people to use public places, 3rdAI, which is available for free download.

The Multitalk Avatar can create 3D images using AI from any photo. By downloading the app, you can create anybody you like and communicate with them using the AI talk bot.

So far, Uday has 15 apps to his credit like TridiForAll, FAINanza, ARMiniGolf, FarmSim, BoxfulVR, MedAlka, Miss Vani AI Teacher, Advisa, HiFriend, Khonojha VS The Virus VR, Kodbhasha, Dr. Khonojha VS The Virus VR, Portable Interpreter and Vyo Voice Your Opinion.

Uday is the son of Dr Ravikumar and Sreekumari Vidyadharan. He has also created an app for his father that helps him talk to his Bengali workers at home.

Dr Ravikumar is proud that he supported his son’s unconventional approach to education and freedom to select his career path.

Uday’s home-based company, Uravu Advanced Learning Systems Private Limited, registered with the Kerala Startup Mission, is in the process of developing more pathbreaking products.

He does not regret dropping out of school as he had bigger dreams to realise outside the classroom walls.

“The best thing I could do was give my son full support when he changed his mind and opted out of the traditional education system,” Dr Ravikumar says.
