International GenAI Conclave to fast-pace Kerala’s progress into knowledge economy

Kochi, July 10: A two-day international conclave on Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) is starting here on July 11, aiming to impart an added momentum to the state’s transformation into a knowledge economy that adopts and integrates cutting-edge technology in all spheres, besides catalysing its vision for Industry 4.0-readiness.


Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the flagship event, organised by Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) in collaboration with IBM, at Lulu Grand Hyatt Bolgatty International Convention Center.

Minister for Industries, Law and Coir Shri P Rajeeve will preside over the inaugural session, while Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala Dr Venu V will deliver the keynote address. Lulu Group International CMD Shri Yusuff Ali M.A., who is NORKA Roots Vice-Chairman, will be the Guest of Honour.

A country first initiative, the meet brings together industry leaders, policymakers and innovators to explore the transformative potential of AI and its impact on society as well as the economy, marking a significant milestone in the advancement of AI in Kerala and the rest of the country, according to Shri Rajeeve.

Around 1,000 delegates have confirmed their participation to the conclave, featuring a diverse array of attendees, including developers, business leaders, academics and students, media and analysts, government officials, IBM clients and its partners. The meet provides a platform for dynamic exchange of ideas and insights that can shape the future of AI in India.

The main-stage agenda promises a captivating blend of keynote addresses, panel discussions and interactive sessions, including an innovative developer "playground" where attendees can explore the latest advancements in AI technology first-hand.

The guests, including Ministers, IBM leadership teams, industry thought leaders, tech business leaders, and special guests, will share their expertise, insights and vision for the future of AI.
In addition to thought-provoking conversations and presentations, the conclave will host engaging demos, activations and opportunities to meet with industry experts. Attendees can also look forward to an awards celebration, recognizing outstanding contributions to AI innovation.

As a lead-up to the conclave, two hackathons were held on WatsonX platform. One was for university students and the other for local startups. The winners are to be rewarded and recognized at the conclave, further amplifying the spirit of innovation and collaboration that defines this ground-breaking event.

As build-up to the event, a series of 'Tech Talks' were held last month. Titled ‘Unleashing the Power of Generative AI: Transforming Ideas into Innovation’, Shri Srinivasan Muthusamy of IBM India Software Lab spoke at Technopark (Thiruvananthapuram), Infopark (Kochi) and Cyberpark (Kozhikode), reaching out to the larger target audience on the potential of the AI sector in the state.

The conclave will showcase the state’s core strengths as an attractive destination for a wide range of enterprises driven by AI and robotics.

The government has identified AI as a focus sector in its new Industrial Policy and prioritised it in the budget for the current financial year, with the conclave figuring as the first major intervention in this direction.

The first day’s sessions will be on ‘GenAI is the New Technology North Star’; ’Driving Innovation with WatsonX’; ‘GenAI in Rising Bharat’; ‘Harnessing the Power of Open-Source AI: Accelerating Business Innovation through Collaboration’; ‘AI in Robotics and Applications’, ‘Navigating the GenAI Landscape: A Developer's Roadmap’ and ‘Lessons Learned from a Skywalker’, followed by Networking and Exploration of Demos and Activations in The Playground.

Day-2 will open with Government Initiatives for Investment promotion, where the speakers include Minister Shri Rajeeve, along with Principal Secretary (Industries and Commerce) Shri A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish and Electronics and Information TechnologySecretary Shri Rathan U Kelkar.

This will be followed by panel discussions on ‘Kerala’s GenAI: Fostering a Supportive Ecosystem’ and ‘Generative AI Represents a New Frontier for Women in Technology’.

The post-lunch session will be ‘The Best and The Brightest – A Celebration of the Student and Start-up WatsonX Hackathon Winners’, followed by a fireside chat on ‘AI Adoption in India – The Impact on Indian Economy and Business’ and a speech on ‘Accelerating AI-driven Deployment for Business Applications’, followed by demos in The Playground and a session on ‘Building Trustworthy GenAI Applications: Navigating IP and Ethical Challenges’.

Following this will be the valedictory session which will have Shri Dinesh Nirmal, Senior Vice President, IBM and Shri S Harikishore, MD KSIDC and Director, Industries and Commerce, summing up the two-day event, followed by a ‘Networking and Exploration of Demos, Activations and Meet the Experts’ session.
