Futuristic technologies must resolve social issues: Top Official

Kochi, July 1: Innovative ideas must lead to futuristic technologies that are capable of resolving issues faced by society and institutions, said Shri A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and Commerce, Kerala.
New data is the current trend as generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is evolving as a major source of tomorrow’s technology, he noted, while addressing students who entered the second round of the WatsonX Hackathon in the run-up to the July 11 -12 International GenAI Conclave in the city.
“The new generation must think of ways to make use of GenAI in resolving social issues,” Shri Hanish told the gathering at WatsonX Hackathon being organised by IBM in association with Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC).
The ongoing virtual Hackathon facilitates students in the AI domain to pitch innovative ideas. Today’s set of sessions, at IBM’s Watson Lab at Infopark in suburban Kakkanad, featured talks and classes by experts.
Shri Hanish, while pointing out the advantages of gaining access to IBM’s world-class labs, said, “Some would win this hackathon, some would fail. What matters is the essence of knowledge you gain.”
KSIDC General Manager Shri Varghese Malakaran and IBM representatives took part in the proceedings. The second round featured 10 teams who emerged winners at the Hackathon’s first round with 70 participants.
The Gen AI Conclave, to be held at Grand Hyatt on Bolgatty Island, will deliberate on the impact of generative artificial intelligence, challenges, latest developments and opportunities to leverage it for the country’s economic advancement and career growth for the youth.
