Kozhikode, June 13: Responsible Tourism Clubs form the latest example of a surge in the people’s participation in Kerala’s travel industry, Tourism Minister Shri P.A. Mohamed Riyas said, inaugurating a state-level chain of such units that seek to woo the young generation into the segment and groom them as responsible hosts.

The area of operation for tourism clubs led by District Tourism Promotion Councils will be the major destinations while the RT clubs are mandated with regional tourism centres, he noted after opening a RT Club at Kadalundi, on Sunday evening.

“Besides taking care of a tourist destination, the RT clubs will play a key role in local development, self-employment and prospective commercial ventures,” Shri Riyas pointed out. The pioneering RT club at Beypore will function under the RT Mission.

The RT Clubs will work in association with the RT Mission by leading the government’s efforts to develop local travel and tourism facilities, create awareness on the RT Mission and boost the region’s folk culture by maintaining their traditional ethos, besides making destinations pollution-free and bringing them under the green protocol.

“This financial year, we plan to open 100 such RT clubs,” minister added at the opening of the chain, beginning with its debut edition under the Beypore Integrated RT Development Project associated with the Department of Tourism.

The State RT Mission will provide the RT clubs training to enable them to involve in their entrepreneurial ventures and sense their developmental prospects. A state-level network of the RT clubs aims at promoting domestic tourism in Kerala.

The Minister also gave away the certificates to the first RT Club and its various units, at the function presided over by Kadalundi Panchayat President Smt Anusha V. RT Mission State Coordinator Shri K. Rupeshkumar welcomed the gathering.
