AI firms need to address biz leaders’ concerns: Expert
First Tech Talk held in the run-up to state govt’s July 11-12 Gen AI Conclave
Trivandrum / June 18, 2024
Thiruvananthapuram, June 18: Companies specialising in Artificial Intelligence (AI) domain need to focus on addressing the challenges of business leaders as they believe decisions made by Generative AI are not sufficiently explainable and can’t be trusted, according to Mr Srinivasan Muthuswami, Senior Technical Staff Member (STSM), IBM India Software Labs.
“Business leaders face challenges in scaling AI across the enterprise with trust. They are concerned about the safety and ethical aspects of Gen. AI,” said Mr Muthuswami.
He was delivering a lecture on ‘Unleashing the Power of Generative AI: Transforming Ideas into Innovation’ as part of the ‘Tech Talk’ series being organised by the State Government in association with IBM at Technopark here today in the run-up to the two-day international Gen. AI conclave being held in Kochi on July 11 and 12.
Ms Sreedevi S, Assistant Manager, Investment and Promotion, Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (KSIDC), was also present.
Noting that business leaders believe Gen. AI can’t be trusted, Mr Muthuswami said they also think it will propagate established biases.
The expert urged AI firms to focus on these areas by bringing innovation since there are a lot of opportunities.
Elaborating on the benefits of Gen. AI in IBM, he said it shows around 40 per cent performance improvement for a highly skilled worker compared with those who don’t use Gen. AI, in addition to improving conversational access to employee support and customer care services.
According to Mr Muthuswami, the barriers preventing organisations from benefiting from AI are integration and scaling challenges, AI governance, data complexity, high price, limited skill and expertise and lack of AI model development tools.
Mr Muthuswami's next Tech Talk session will be held at Infopark, Kochi, on June 20 at 3 p.m., followed by Cyber Park, Kozhikode, on June 21 at 11 a.m.
The conclave, hosted at Lulu Grand Hyatt Bolgatty International Convention Center, will bring together industry leaders, policymakers and innovators to explore AI's transformative potential and impact on society and the economy.
It will be a significant milestone in the advancement of AI in Kerala and the country. The mainstage agenda promises a captivating blend of keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, including an innovative Developer "Playground" where attendees can explore the latest advancements in AI technology first-hand.
Esteemed guests, including the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Hon’ble Ministers, IBM leadership teams, industry thought leaders, Indian tech business leaders, and special guests, will grace the stage, sharing their expertise and vision for the future of AI.
