Milma ERCMPU requests Union Minister to include dairying under MGNREGS
Kochi / June 12, 2024
Kochi, June 12: Milma Ernakulam Regional Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union (ERCMPU) today called upon the Centre to include dairying in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, underscoring the need to check a steady flow of the farmers from the sector.
In a memorandum submitted by Milma ERCMPU Chairman Shri M.T. Jayan to Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Dairying Shri George Kurian, the union noted that the state’s farmers have been facing a crisis, “striving hard to sustain in dairying due to steady skyrocketing of production cost”.
Shri Jayan exhorted the new government to consider the “long-pending demand” for the relief of the over 11 lakh dairy farmers of Kerala.
Noting that the “primary goal” of Milma will be to retain the farmers in the field by offering them reasonable income, ERCMPU said it was “very much hopeful” that the government will consider its request for a solution which will be a “gift” to the dairy farming community.
