Minister Riyas to open Convention Centre at Veli Tourist Village

27,000 sq.ft complex set up at a cost of Rs 20 crore

Thiruvananthapuram, March 12: Tourism Minister Shri P A Mohamed Riyas will inaugurate the Convention Centre constructed by the Department of Tourism as part of the second phase infrastructure development activities at Veli Tourist Village here on March 13 (Wednesday).

The 27,000 sq.ft lake-front facility has been built at a cost of Rs 20 crore having high-end features of global standards, strengthening the state’s standing as a fast-growing MICE tourism hub.

Shri Antony Raju, MLA, will preside over the function to be held at Veli Tourist Village at 6.30 pm. Smt. Arya Rajendarn, Mayor, Corporation; Dr Shashi Tharoor, MP; Shri A A Rahim, MP; and Shri Kadakampally Surendran, MLA, will be the chief guests on the occasion.

 

Shri P B Nooh, Director, Kerala Tourism; Shri Sajeesh. S K, Chairman, KTIL; Smt Sikha Surendran, MD, KTDC, and Shri Manoj Kini, MD, KTIL will attend the function.

 

The first floor of the Convention Centre can accommodate around 750 people and the dining hall has space for 300 guests. Besides, around 60 vehicles can be parked at a time at the complex.

The work of the Convention Centre was awarded to Uralungal Labour Contract Co-Operative Society (ULCCS).

A busy tourism spot that attracts both in-bound tourists and a preferred joint for family outings, Veli Tourism Village has added several new features and amenities in recent years, including the Miniature Train that is a big hit among children, created as part of the first phase infrastructure development.
