Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 13: Group of Technology Companies (GTECH), the industry body of IT companies in Kerala, today organized a mini marathon at Technopark with IT professionals coming forward to impart greater momentum to the ‘No to Drugs’ campaign rolled out by the Government of Kerala. The promo event was a prelude to the second edition of ‘GTECH Marathon,’ scheduled to be held at Infopark, Kochi on February 11.

Col Sanjeev Nair (Retd), CEO of Technopark, flagged off the five-km promo marathon in which several IT company CEOs and more than 100 techies from various IT companies participated.

The first promo of the largest marathon was held in Infopark, Kochi earlier, featuring more than 1000 IT professionals and a series of programmes including flash mob, bike rally and live music concert.

On the occasion, Col Nair, who completed one year at the helm of affairs in Technopark on January 12, said the ‘GTECH Marathon’ has been a huge success for a social cause ("No to Drugs" campaign by the govt) in its first edition at Technopark Thiruvananthapuram last year and the second edition is soon to happen in February at Infopark Kochi this year. This shows how the tech fraternity of IT Parks is so well aligned towards both fitness and social cause.

Shri VK Mathews, Chairman of GTECH, said the purpose of the campaign was to sensitize the public about the disturbing trend of drug and substance abuse in Kerala.

“It causes unimaginable damage to the society and it is important that like-minded and responsible people come out in unison with a loud message of ‘No to Drugs’ and ‘Yes to Fitness’. We need to convert campaigns like this into a mass public movement to make Kerala drugs free,” Shri Mathews added.

Shri Sreekumar V, GTECH Secretary and Centre Head, TATA Elxsi; Shri Hariprasad, Vice President and MD, H & R Block; Shri Aneesh, Branch Manager, SBI and members of GTech and Natana were also present.
