Fab Academy invites applications for 2024 admissions

Kochi, Dec 21: The Fab Academy has called for admissions to its 2024 course, set to be held in select fablabs around the world, under Global Fab Foundation. The course can as well be undertaken at the Kochi Super Fablab run by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM).

Unlike in the previous years, Fab Academy will provide 95 per cent scholarship to five women candidates selected to do their course. The goal is a stronger presence of women in the field of science and technology.

The candidates must have basic knowledge about the English language, computer applications, science and technology, and engineering and mathematics. Those interested in digital design, product design and development, prototyping, too, can join this course. The applicants can be those interested in digital fabrication and prototyping, such as engineers, architects and designers can apply for this course. The applicants will be screened on the basis of test and interview. The five selected will get a scholarship of up to 80 per cent of the course fee.

The classes are designed in a way that facilitates practical use of knowledge. Unlike regular courses, the Fab Academy program gives students the opportunity to choose and develop their own projects.

There will also be a weekly online class led by Professor Neil Gerschenfeld of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Overall, the course envisages to give, students a clear idea about digital fabrication and prototyping. Apart from this, Fab Academy provides an opportunity to develop skills in various technical and engineering fields to become a better professional.

The Fab Academy course is completely offline and should be done at Fablab Kochi. It is being conducted in 70 fablabs around the world. All the students who completed Fab Academy course from Super Fablab Kochi have got admission in other higher education institutes or earned high jobs.

As the Fab Academy doesn’t follow a teacher-driven curriculum, this course gives candidates an opportunity to choose a project of their choice and develop it using the knowledge gained from the studies. It will enable the student to authentically understand all the phases of designing and developing products. Apart from this, the students graduating from Fab Academy under FabLab Kerala have an opportunity for internship and fellowship in FabLab Kerala.

KSUM is Kerala government’s nodal agency established in 2006 for entrepreneurship development and incubation activities in the state.
