Kerala IT Says No to Drugs, over 1000 techies rally in Infopark

Kochi, Dec 8: With drugs and substance abuse showing an alarming increase in the state, especially among the youth, IT professionals of Kerala have come together to launch a strong awareness drive to highlight the serious ill-effect of this menace, wrecking individuals besides devastating families and the society at large. 

The first of a series of programmes as part of the campaign was launched at Infopark Cochin by the Thrikakkara MLA Smt Uma Thomas, which witnessed the participation of over 1000 techies of various companies of Infopark.

The event, organized by the Group of Technology Companies, (GTECH), the industry body of IT companies in Kerala, featured a mob dance by the CEO’s, special addresses by film personalities, bike rally and a live band.

Inaugurating the event Smt Uma Thomas said “Kerala has witnessed a disturbing trend with a four-fold increase in drug related cases in the last few years. This is causing unimaginable damage to the society and it is important that like-minded and responsible people come out in unison with a loud message of ‘No to Drugs’ and ‘Yes to Fitness’”

She said it is an inspiring start since the event could bring together such a large turnout for this important social cause, adding it is important to convert campaigns like this into a mass public movement to make Kerala drugs free.

The GTECH marathon on February 11, 2024 at Infopark Cochin will mark the grand finale of the programme. Over 5,000 runners are expected to participate making it the largest ever marathon held in Kerala. Registration for participation is now open at www.gtechmarathon.com

GTECH has a membership base of 300+ IT companies comprising of 80% of IT professionals in the state totaling over 1.50 lakhs.

All leading IT companies in Kerala including TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, IBS Software, UST, EY, Tata Elxsi etc are members of GTECH.
