CADRRE Art Week to showcase over 100 paintings on autism spectrum

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 26: The Centre for Autism and Other Disabilities Rehabilitation Research and Education (CADRRE), a Thiruvananthapuram-based not-for-profit organisation, hosting an exhibition of paintings by artists on the autism spectrum.

The four-day CADRRE Art Week event will begin on Nov 29 at the CADRRE Artism Studio, AIR Road, Vazhuthacaud, in the capital city.

Over 100 paintings by more than 50 young artists of CADRRE will be on display at the exhibition, which will conclude on Dec 2.

The event will start at 3.30 pm on Wednesday with a live painting session and art workshop by Nincy Mariam Mondly, psychologist and paraplegic artist.

Smt. Divya S. Iyer IAS, managing director of Vizhinjam International Seaport, will formally inaugurate the show at 5.30 pm.

The exhibition will be open to the public from 3.30 pm to 6.30 pm on the first day and from 10.30 am to 6.30 pm the following three days.

“The exhibition will feature outstanding works of art by young people who are autistic expressing themselves,” said the honourable director of CADRRE, G Vijaya Raghavan.

“The youngest of the talented artists is just three years old, and the oldest is 28. Some of the paintings will also be on sale.”

There will be Movement & Music Therapy and Art for Autism workshops on Nov 30 and Dec 1 for professionals working with individuals on the autism spectrum.

This will be free of cost.

On Dec 2 at 4 pm, Dr Jamila K Warrier, consultant psychologist, educational therapist, and coordinator of KIMS Health Holistic Child Development Center, will talk on empowering parents of children on the spectrum.

The CADRRE Art Week will conclude with a valedictory address by Shri Soorya Krishnamurthy, founder-director of Soorya Stage and Film Society, at 5.30 pm on Dec 2.
